CALL FOR PAPERS


The Department of Private Law of the Nelson Mandela University will be hosting its tenth Annual Private Law and Social Justice Conference on 6 and 7 August 2018 at the Conference Centre on the Summerstrand North Campus of the University. The theme for the 2018 conference is “Private Law and Social Justice post-Mandela”. As the only university in the world that bears the name of Mandela, Nelson Mandela University is hosting a series of events for the Mandela centenary, which will include the 2018 Private Law and Social Justice Conference.

Former Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke and Honorary Doctorate recipient of the Faculty of Law at Nelson Mandela University will be the conference dinner speaker.

The organisers invite academics to submit proposals for papers dealing with social justice issues in the following areas of private law:

Family Law
Law of Persons
Customary Law
Consumer Law (linking to private law and social justice)
Law of Contract
Banking and Finance Law (insofar as these areas relate to private law and social justice)
IT Law (linking to private law and social justice)
Law of Unjustified Enrichment
Law of Delict
Insurance law (linking to private law and social justice)
Intersection between private law and social justice in the post Mandela era

Proposals for papers are due by 15 JUNE 2018. No late proposals will be accepted.
A proposal should include the following: The title of the paper and an abstract of no more than 250 words; author(s) name(s), institutional affiliation and contact details; three to four keywords. Please indicate how your proposal relates to theme.

The presentation of completed papers may not exceed 20 minutes. Please note that all abstracts will be reviewed. Abstracts must be sent to privatelawgen@mandela.ac.za. Please copy Dr Razaana Denson at razaana.denson@mandela.ac.za.
