The Private Law and Social Justice Conference was held for the first time in 2009. It coincided with the inaugural lecture of the honorary professor in Private Law, the late professor Eltjo Schrage. Prof Schrage's inaugural lecture was entitled "The Role of Private Law in Promoting Social Justice", which was also the theme of the conference. The name of the conference was changed to "Private Law and Social Justice Conference" in 2010 and over the years different themes have been chosen to inform the conference programmes of particular years. We have welcomed a myriad of speakers and our guest speakers have included Constitutional Justices Yvonne Mokgoro, Zak Yacoob and Dikgang Moseneke.

Programmes of previous years, as well as Prof Schrage's inaugural lecture, are attached to this page.
